Working Out on the Beach

It is summertime and you might not feel like working out in the gym or even in your home. How about taking it to the beach? Working out on the beach will make your workouts fun and you get plenty of fresh air and sunshine. Who doesn’t want a day at the beach?

There are a number of different exercises you can do on the beach.

High-Intensity Interval Training Workout

Working Out on the BeachHigh-Intensity Interval Training or HIIT, is the perfect exercise routine for working out on the beach. The upside is that they only take a few minutes to complete. In just five or ten minutes you can get in an intense workout. It burns lots of calories and you get into shaping doing them.

Since you won’t be spending a lot of time with this exercise routine, you can get back to enjoying the beach with your family and friends.

You can do a series of exercises that are really just for toning the body. These exercises will take between eight and ten minutes.

The first set of exercises you can do is the lunge or squats. Just do them for about thirty seconds to warm up your body.

Then alternating different exercises, you add some intensity to each one. Some HIIT exercises include the plank drag, side shuffle, and single-leg bounding.

Here is a short description of these exercises:

The Plank Drag: The plank drag uses a weight that you pull from side to side.

The Plank Drag Video:

Side Shuffle: Extend one leg to the side of your body and shuffle the other leg toward it. Keep your chest up and your feet straight as you continue shuffling for several seconds. Repeat the exercise in the opposite direction.

Side Shuffle Video:

Single-Leg Bounding: Balance on one leg. Jump upwards and forward as far as you can. Land on the same foot you jumped from and as soon as you land jump again. Repeat this motion for the desired amount of repetitions and then switch legs.

Run Sprints on the Beach

This is another high-intensity exercise for working at on the beach. It doesn’t take long and you can enjoy the scenery as you run. This will get your blood pumping because it is a lot harder to run on sand than on a solid surface.

You might like to do a sprint on the beach, followed by a HIIT workout and then a light stroll back to where you started. Repeat as many times as you want.

Throwing a Frisbee

Working Out on the BeachNo day at the beach is complete without being able to throw a frisbee. You can do this with your family, the kids or the dog.

Make it a competition where you move back every time someone catches the Frisbee. This way you can turn it into a better exercise.

Keep moving back as far as you can before no one can catch or throw the Frisbee at that distance anymore.

To keep this up, simply start walking back towards each other and do it again.

Swimming in the Water

You can not go to the beach without getting in the water! This is a great exercise because it does not affect your joints. Spend as much time doing different strokes as you like to get the best exercise at the beach!
